Poster Competition launched to find new Cub and Beaver Scout Leaders

With a top prize of £25 in Gift Vouchers the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts of 1st Stanstead Abbotts & St Margaret’s Scout Group are busy drawing and painting posters to attract new Leaders to their Group. The winning posters from each of their 5 sections will be printed up and posted all around the area. With both a Cub Scout Leader and a Beaver Scout Leader stepping down at Easter, the Group are working hard to find some more adult Leaders and helpers for the Group.

The Scout Group is continually growing and every week over 110 children from the village and local area come together in their different Beaver, Cub or Scout sections to have a huge amount of fun with their friends and Leaders in a huge variety of interesting and varied activities. Cub Scout Leader Caroline said, “I’ve had such a great time with my Cubs and the Leader Team over the last 5 years but I just won’t be able to carry on now due to increased work commitments with my job in the Police. Whoever takes over is sure to have a great time – I’ve loved being involved with the children from the village and taking them on all sorts of adventures and introducing them to new things and people! I started just helping out 5 years ago when my two boys were in Beavers and it just went on from there. I had no previous Scouting experience but there was lots of support to get me going.”

Over the last couple of months the Scout Group’s boys and girls have really busy, as usual, learning new skills and trying out all sorts of new hobbies - like cooking, cycling, go-karting, climbing, handicraft, yoga as well as competing in some outdoor and indoor events, meeting some very interesting visitors and going on an wide variety of adventures – some just for the fun of it or for the adventure, and some a little more life enriching, such as to the Tower of London, Fire Station or to a local farm. As one of the Beaver Leaders said at a recent activity fun day at Tolmers, “I’m not sure if I’m not having more fun than my Beavers”.

Group Scout Leader Paul Stretch and his fellow team of 25 volunteer adults have been urgently appealing to members of the local to community to step forward saying,”Remember, all the adults helping in any Scout Group do so because it’s FUN! We wouldn’t do it if we didn’t enjoy it and benefit ourselves, as well as helping the young people grow and develop of course. So don’t think of helping as a chore, think of it as an ADVENTURE!”

Anyone who is interested in finding out more, is asked to contact Paul Stretch ASAP on 0845 054 5081 or email info@StansteadAbbottsScouts.org.uk and please start looking out for the winning posters from the competition! www.StansteadAbbottsScout.org.uk
